The Crop Research Institute
(CRI, before 2007 Research Institute of Crop Production) was established in 1951 as the Central Research Institute of Crop Production. The basic aim of the CRI is the development of scientific knowledge in the fields of integrated crop production and production of hygienically-safe foodstuffs, and the creation of bases for sustainable development of agriculture and environment protection. During 60 years of its existence, CRI has been the leading research institution in the field of crop production in the Czech Republic.
The mission of CRI is primarily strategic and applied research in the field of crop production, but includes also pure research. From this point of view, CRI fills the space between the basic research implemented at universities and the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the specialised applied research implemented at private institutes and field stations.
